The sculpture and landscaped setting will present to visitors and locals alike an impression of both Hendersonville and Flat Rock that the environment and aesthetics of public spaces matters to those who live and work there. This can be seen both visually through the use of native plants as landscaping and metaphorically through the story provided by the sculpture
The sculpture represents the various ethnicities of the peoples who have become the living breathing life of North Carolina, beginning with First Nation people followed by settlers from Scotland, Ireland, Europe, then Africa, Latin America and Asia. The various ethnicities of these people are represented as flowers growing on a strong stem encased in an open vase like structure to portray one coherent diverse living vibrant community.
